Ashwood is a small unincorporated town in Jefferson County. Just 32 miles northeast of Madras. Interesting enough many citizens consider this to be a ghost town.

It was originally settled by a native American named Sahaptin. Shortly after the Sahaptin were forced to move to the local Warm Springs Indian Reservation in 1850.

This town is most known and popular with rockhounds. The area is abundant in petrified wood, jasper and large thundereggs. Oregons state rock.
