Gresham Information & Highlights

Gresham is the 4th largest city in Oregon and is located in Multnomah County, where it shares a common border with Portland.  The population in the 2010 census was 105,594.  For the last ten years, the population has been growing at a 1.5% growth rate/year.  The median household income is $43,442 and the mean family income is $51,126. About 12.5% of the population live below the poverty line.

It started its existance as a temporary campground for many early pioneers moving to the Oregon Territory before they moved on to Portland (to the Northwest) or the Wilammette Valley (to the South).  It was named after Walter Gresham, an American Civil War general and Postmaster General, in an apparent effort to curry favor with the US Postal Service (since it could not be incorporated as a city without first having a post office). 

Gresham is served by three school districts: Centennial, Gresham-Barlow and Reynolds.  Mount Hood Community College is located in Gresham.

Gresham is a complicated community, property wise. It's a town that is connected to it's big-daddy town, of Portland. Because of this many people don't consider it its own town.
