Marion County is a major county located in Oregon. At first it was named the Champooick District, after Champoeg. Which was a meeting and gathering place along the Willamette River. Around the late 1840's the legistlature renamed it after Francis Marion, who was a Continental Army general of the Amercian Revolutionary War.
